A large, saltwater fish.
Information
Tuna is a saltwater fish known for its deep pink or red flesh. They are fast and large carnivores, eating smaller fish, squid, crustaceans, and other creatures.
Tuna meat is lean and is consumed both cooked and raw and can be found whole, in cuts such a fillets, and raw in sushi and sashimi. Tuma is commonly found canned and is a popular source for tuna salad.
Because tuna is high on the food chain, it can often have high amounts of mercury, which increases from eating other fish with mercury content. Mercury is highly toxic to humans, and the US. Food and Drug Administration warns pregnant women and young children to avoid eating tuna.
