With bent knees and upward reaching arms that pop your chest wide open, Utkatasana is far from sitting in a chair. This is Fierce Pose.
Ashtanga ABCs Day 13 {Be Fierce}
Challenge Pose: Utkatasana
The common English translation incorrectly calls Utkatasana Chair Pose, but there is nothing about this pose that is like relaxing in a chair. In fact it’s quite the opposite. With bent knees and upward reaching arms that pop your chest wide open, Utkatasana requires a certain level of fight to stick with it for five breaths. This is Fierce Pose.
When times get tough, you have two options. Fold or fight. As of today, I choose fight. While I’ve definitely been waking up late and taking advantage of extra naps, I also feel an extra fire 🔥 to tap into this creative energy and make the most of it. That means not getting too comfortable in my chair, on the sofa, or on my floor pillows. Has anyone else gotten a little tooooo relaxed?? Maybe it’s just me...
Well today’s challenge pose is dedicated to being a little less of a chair and a little more fierce.
