The Book of Mormon is a sacred text of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and is considered by its followers to be another testament of Jesus Christ. First published in 1830 by Joseph Smith, who claimed to have translated it from golden plates revealed to him by an angel named Moroni, the book recounts the religious history of ancient peoples in the Americas. It includes narratives of prophets, wars, and Jesus' visit to the Americas after his resurrection. Central themes include faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and God’s plan of salvation. While the book is regarded as scripture by Latter-day Saints, it is viewed with skepticism or as non-canonical by most other Christian denominations. Its influence has shaped LDS theology, missionary work, and religious practices, making it one of the most significant religious texts to emerge from 19th-century America.
