Should we restrict TikTok?
The social media platform TikTok continues to be under scrutiny across the world because of the level of exposure it offers. TikTok uses one of the biggest benefits of globalization to allow people across the world to connect in real time through short videos. Because of this, information can be easily shared, and dances, songs, and challenges can go viral in an instant.
TikTok can't control what people choose to upload or how people respond to what they see. However, we're seeing a concerning trend where children, who are particularly vulnerable to suggestion, are accidentally injuring or killing themselves trying to act out some of the challenges they see on TikTok. Challenges range from combining rubbing alcohol and fire to hanging yourself to experience "a rush." Needless to say, the results can be tragic.
Countries have also had concerns about data privacy through the app.
Here is a list of the countries who have currently or previously restricted TikTok.

Afghanistan (ordered but not in effect) | India (permanently banned) |
Bangladesh (previously banned) | Russia (bans by both Russia and TikTok) |
