Padmasana

Padmasana is a traditional pose for seated meditation.

Sanskrit Name: Padmasana

English Translation: Lotus Posture

Drishti: Nose

Padma - Lotus

Asana - Posture

Full Padmasana requires deep hip mobility that is difficult for most Westerners to get into at first because most of us are not accustomed to sitting in this way. However, with practice, you can get more comfortable putting your legs into Padmasana over time.

  1. Put the right leg on top.

  2. Then the left

Padmasana is often used as a seat for connecting with the divine and our inner wisdom, so once in position, then you may add a mudra such as Yoga Mudra or Anjali Mudra, or maybe even practice japa meditation or chanting.
