Information
The Islamic or Hijri calendar is a pure lunar calendar. It has 12 months, following the movement of the moon, making each month 29-30 days for a total of 355 days. Because the lunar year is 11 days shorter than the solar year, over time the calendar appears to "drift" in comparison to the solar calendar, meaning that each month will occur during different solar seasons over the years. The Islamic calendar is for religious purposes and adds no extra days or years to match up with the seasons or the solar year.
