Presence.

Yoga asks us to become more present, but what does that really mean?

The neverending battle between being in our heads and being present in the room... between enjoying the fantasy of what could be, and accepting the reality of what actually is right in front of you.

One of the ways yoga asks us to be present is by keeping the eyes open. There are so many times when it's tempting and feels relaxing to close the eyes - in forward folds, for instance. But we find that closing the eyes tends to create sleepiness of the mind or even monkey mind. For some reason, it's more difficult to control the mind when the eyes are closed, and the mind more easily wanders into fantasyland and daydreaming or begins to relax into a kind of rest.
